Ingredients
- 1recipe tart dough (see basic tart dough recipe)
- 6medium Golden Delicious or Jonagold apples
- 2tablespoons butter (cut into small pieces)
- 2tablespoons apricot jam
- 2tablespoons sugar
Instructions
1Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2Peel, core and slice the apples very thinly. Try to slice them as uniformly as possible.
3Arrange the apple slices on the pre-baked tart shell in overlapping concentric circles starting from the outside and working towards the center.
4Dot the apples with the butter pieces, trying to distribute them evenly.
5Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the apples.
6Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the apples are tender and starting to caramelize at the edges and the tart shell is golden brown.
7While the tart is baking, warm the apricot jam with a tablespoon of water until it becomes liquid.
8As soon as you remove the tart from the oven, brush the apples with the warm apricot jam to give them a beautiful glaze.
9Allow to cool before serving. This tart is best served at room temperature.
Chef's Notes
Apple Arrangement
Take time to arrange the apple slices in neat, overlapping circles. This not only looks beautiful but ensures even cooking throughout the tart.
The Perfect Glaze
Apply the warm apricot glaze while the tart is still hot. This creates a glossy finish and adds a subtle sweetness that complements the apples perfectly.
